Ten Commandments

Deut 11:26 Take note – I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse:

Deut 11:27 the blessing if you take to heart the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you today,
Deut 11:28 and the curse if you pay no attention to his commandments and turn from the way I am setting before you today to pursue other gods you have not known.

I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me.
Exod 20:1 God spoke all these words:
Exod 20:2 “I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you from the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.
Exod 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before me.
Exod 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or that is on the earth beneath or that is in the water below.
Exod 20:5 You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, responding to the transgression of fathers by dealing with children to the third and fourth generations of those who reject me,
Exod 20:6 and showing covenant faithfulness to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Exod 20:7 “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold guiltless anyone who takes his name in vain.
Matt 5:34 But I say to you, do not take oaths at all – not by heaven, because it is the throne of God,
Matt 5:35 not by earth, because it is his footstool, and not by Jerusalem, because it is the city of the great King.
Matt 5:36 Do not take an oath by your head, because you are not able to make one hair white or black.
Matt 5:37 Let your word be ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no.’ More than this is from the evil one.

Remember to keep holy the Lord's day
Exod 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day to set it apart as holy.
Exod 20:9 For six days you may labor and do all your work,
Exod 20:10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God; on it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant, or your cattle, or the resident foreigner who is in your gates.
Exod 20:11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth and the sea and all that is in them, and he rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy.

Honor your father and your mother.
Deut 5:16 Honor your father and your mother just as the LORD your God has commanded you to do, so that your days may be extended and that it may go well with you in the land that he is about to give you.
Eph 6:1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord for this is right.
Eph 6:2 “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment accompanied by a promise, namely,
Eph 6:3 “that it may go well with you and that you will live a long time on the earth.”

You shall not kill.

Matt 5:21 “You have heard that it was said to an older generation, ‘Do not murder,’ and ‘whoever murders will be subjected to judgment.’
Matt 5:22 But I say to you that anyone who is angry with a brother will be subjected to judgment. And whoever insults a brother will be brought before the council, and whoever says ‘Fool’ will be sent to fiery hell.
Matt 5:23 So then, if you bring your gift to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you,
Matt 5:24 leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother and then come and present your gift.
Matt 5:25 Reach agreement quickly with your accuser while on the way to court, or he may hand you over to the judge, and the judge hand you over to the warden, and you will be thrown into prison.
Matt 5:26 I tell you the truth, you will never get out of there until you have paid the last penny!

You shall not commit adultery.
Matt 5:27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’
Matt 5:28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to desire her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Matt 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
Matt 5:30 If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away! It is better to lose one of your members than to have your whole body go into hell.
Matt 5:31 “It was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife must give her a legal document.’
Matt 5:32 But I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for immorality, makes her commit adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

 You shall not steal
Deut 25:13 You must not have in your bag different stone weights, a heavy and a light one.
Deut 25:14 You must not have in your house different measuring containers, a large and a small one.
Deut 25:15 You must have an accurate and correct stone weight and an accurate and correct measuring container, so that your life may be extended in the land the LORD your God is about to give you.
Deut 25:16 For anyone who acts dishonestly in these ways is abhorrent to the LORD your God.
Lev 19:13 You must not oppress your neighbor or commit robbery against him. You must not withhold the wages of the hired laborer overnight until morning.
1Tim 6:7 For we have brought nothing into this world and so we cannot take a single thing out either.
1Tim 6:8 But if we have food and shelter, we will be satisfied with that.
1Tim 6:9 Those who long to be rich, however, stumble into temptation and a trap and many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
1Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evils. Some people in reaching for it have strayed from the faith and stabbed themselves with many pains.
Matt 6:30 And if this is how God clothes the wild grass, which is here today and tomorrow is tossed into the fire to heat the oven, won’t he clothe you even more, you people of little faith?
Matt 6:31 So then, don’t worry saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’
Matt 6:32 For the unconverted pursue these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
Matt 6:33 But above all pursue his kingdom and righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matt 6:34 So then, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Today has enough trouble of its own.
Matt 6:19 “Do not accumulate for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal.
Matt 6:20 But accumulate for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.
Matt 6:21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Prov 6:16 There are six things that the LORD hates, even seven things that are an abomination to him:
Prov 6:17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
Prov 6:18 a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift to run to evil,
Prov 6:19 a false witness who pours out lies, and a person who spreads discord among family members.
Exod 23:1 “You must not give a false report. Do not make common cause with the wicked to be a malicious witness.
Exod 23:2 “You must not follow a crowd in doing evil things; in a lawsuit you must not offer testimony that agrees with a crowd so as to pervert justice,
Exod 23:3 and you must not show partiality to a poor man in his lawsuit.

You shall not covet your neighbor's wife.
Prov 6:28 Can a man walk on hot coals without scorching his feet?
Prov 6:29 So it is with the one who has sex with his neighbor’s wife; no one who touches her will escape punishment.

You shall not covet your neighbor's goods.
Deut 5:21 You must not desire another man’s wife, nor should you crave his house, his field, his male and female servants, his ox, his donkey, or anything else he owns.”

1Cor 6:9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! The sexually immoral, idolaters, adulterers, passive homosexual partners, practicing homosexuals,
1Cor 6:10 thieves, the greedy, drunkards, the verbally abusive, and swindlers will not inherit the kingdom of God.

John 13:34 “I give you a new commandment – to love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."

Gal 5:14 For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment, namely, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.”
